What is Twitter? Twitter is a free service that allows me to share important information, reminders, and updates by sending short text messages (140 characters in length), called "tweets", to the parents in my class and their families.
Why is Twitter useful? Twitter is a way for me to communicate important information with you quickly when sending an e-mail would be impractical. For example, let's say it's almost 3:00 dismissal time and it begins to rain. Sending our Rainy Day location to you in an e-mail would be useless. By that time you are probably already in the parent pick-up line or walking to our classroom door to pick up your student. I would send a message (known as a tweet) from my cell phone saying, "Rainy day dismissal, all 3rd graders are in room 204". This message then gets immediately sent to your cell phone (via text message). Another example, let's say it's the morning of Class Picture Day. Sending you an e-mail that morning reminding you to dress your child in their class t-shirt would not be helpful. I am sure that at a quarter to 8 A.M. you are rushing to get the kids fed, dressed, and out the door and not checking your e-mails. I would send a tweet to all my parents saying, "Picture Day today. Remember to wear your class Shirt." This tweet is immediately sent directly to your cell phone as a text message. How do I sign up for Twitter and begin getting your messages? Just follow these easy steps below. If you have any questions or need help, please send me an e-mail or stop by my room and I will help you get started. Start receiving our class updates by following these 9 easy steps below. If you already have a twitter.com account follow steps 4-9.
